Utah Hospitals Launch LeanOnUtah Donation Drive to Collect Used Crutches and Walk Assist Devices That are in Critically Short Supply
WHAT:
Utahns are urged to check their closets, attics, and garages for used metal crutches and other walk-assist equipment as some Utah hospitals face the danger of running out of these vital medical devices.
LeanOnUtah is a statewide donation drive organized by Intermountain Healthcare, University of Utah Health, Steward Health, and the Utah Hospital Association. Their goal is to collect metal crutches, walkers, canes, and non-motorized wheelchairs to ensure patients have the medical equipment they need. All devices donated will be inspected for safety, sanitized, and sent to hospitals that need them. Wooden crutches and canes cannot be used by the hospitals, since they are unable to be properly sanitized.
WHO: Intermountain Healthcare, University of Utah Health, Steward Health, and The Utah Hospital Association. WHEN: The donation drive, LeanOnUtah, begins Saturday, Oct. 30, from 10 am to 2 pm at St George Regional Hospital Entrance 3. Collections will also occur on Nov. 6 and 13 at the same locations and times. NEEDED DONATIONS: Metal crutches, walkers, canes, knee scooters, and non-motorized wheelchairs. Once collected, caregivers will sanitize and inspect the devises for safety before being sent to hospitals for use. They will then be given to patients with a note letting them know it was generously donated by someone in the community. All devices that can’t be repaired will be properly recycled. Our office will also be collecting these items to take to the hospital, if you would like to donate. The last day to donate at our office is Friday, November 12th. We appreciate the generosity of our patients and friends as we all work together to help each other.
